Dual Credit Program Application

Applying to the Dual Credit Program

High school students who want to participate in the Thomas More Dual Credit (TMDC) program must complete an application. Once you are admitted into the program, you do not need to submit additional dual credit applications each semester. Included here is information to help you determine if this is the right program for you.

Students meeting the following requirements are eligible for TMDC: High school sophomores, juniors, and seniors who have a high school unweighted GPA of 3.0 or higher and meet all course prerequisites. Note: Sophomores may only take courses offered at their high school unless granted an exception. An exception includes allowing them to take courses online or on the Ƶ campus. To apply for an exception, submit the following with your application: (1) A letter of intent explaining why the student should be provided with admittance into the program and their course plans. (2) A letter of recommendation from an educator who can attest to the applicant’s academic and emotional capability to participate in college courses.

All TMCD students may take summer courses for the same discounted tuition rate until their senior year.

Submission of test score is always your choice. Not submitting a test score will not negatively impact your application. You may want to consider submitting scores if you need to show that you meet the pre-requisite for a course. If you decide to submit test scores, please use the following codes: Ƶ ACT code: 1560, SAT code: 1876.

Ƶ does not superscore.

Frequently Asked Questions

Both AP and dual credit provide students with a rigorous academic challenge. With AP, students must take a qualifying test to determine if they earn college credit. Each college will award credit for AP scores differently. With dual-credit, students who successfully pass their course will earn credit at Thomas More which may be transferable to many other institutions.

This is an excellent opportunity for students to strengthen their high school curricula and experience college coursework while still in the “safe” environment of high school.  Students who start in their junior year could earn an entire semester or more of college work by the time they graduate and at significant savings. Generally, the courses available are entry-level general education courses. This will vary with each high school. To learn more about the courses offered at your high school, please contact your high school counselor.

If a student is attending a postsecondary institution – at any age – the rights under FERPA (the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) have transferred to the student.  However, when a student is enrolled in both a high school and a postsecondary institution, the two schools may exchange information on that student.  If the student is under 18, the parents still retain the rights under FERPA at the high school and may inspect and review any records sent by the postsecondary institution to the high school.

We encourage the students to communicate with their professors about grades, course questions, etc. Additionally, students may reach out to the Thomas More Dual-Credit office if they need help navigating campus resources.
